Pietro
Simonetti
Pietro Simonetti is not new to the idea of performing
extreme stunts to raise money for a good cause. In March
of 2002, Pietro and 4 other friends set a Guinness World
Record by skiing all Colorado's 28 resorts in a time of
80 hours, 41 minutes for the National Sports Center for
the Disabled. In 2001, Pietro found himself standing on
top of Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Western
Hemisphere (23,000 ft.). Proving he cannot get enough
of life at the top, Pietro also traveled to Makalu Base
Camp in Nepal to undergo a series of tests to study the
effects of high altitude on his own body. This research
was sponsored by the University of Colorado at Boulder,
and led to improvements to the high altitude Gamov bag.
Pietro will be one of two skiers on the Kilimanjaro expedition
who will make their descent down the Heim Glacier.
