| AGENDA
In 1997, Stephen Koch became the
first person to snowboard the white powder of Mount
Kilimanjaro. Since then, only a handful of people have
descended the ridges of the highest mountain in the
African continent.In November of 2003, a group of 4
people will climb Uhuru Peak - the native name for Mount
Kilimanjaro - via the Shira route. From the summit,
at 19,340 feet, skiers Pietro Simonetti and Mike Stadler,
will attempt to descend 3,500 vertical feet over the
Heim Glacier, reach the Southern Circuit trail, and
meet the rest of the group by Barafa Hut.
Along the way, the team will encounter the beautiful
wilderness that is Africa, and enjoy some spectacular
views. The area surrounding Kilimanjaro has some of
the most amazing wildlife and ancient cultures.
We will see animals in their natural habitat that we
have only seen in cages at the zoo and meet people we
have only seen in the pages of National Geographic.
This journey will not only make a significant impact
on us as individuals, but also provide hope to those
suffering with cancer. We will keep all of those people
in our hearts as we make our way to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. |
